Fisher Drafted by Globetrotters |
Tay Fisher caught the attention of the Harlem Globetrotters with his basketball skills, after being seen at a Hawks game late into the season. Last Wednesday, the Globetrotters made Kingston High and Siena College graduate Fisher one of six players selected in their second annual draft.
Coach Clyde Sinclair explained what type of player appeals to the renowned Globetrotters, who have played in 119 countries before more than 128-million fans since forming in 1926.
"When evaluating draft prospects, we look for players that bring special skills and the personality to potentially be Harlem Globetrotters," Sinclair said in a statement. "We hope we can be as fortunate as last year, when our top pick, Ant Atkinson, not only made the team, but has flourished."
Fisher, a 5-foot-9 guard, battled bigger players throughout his scholastic and collegiate careers.
"They (Globies) like that I'm short," Fisher said. "I can shoot and play the game, and they think kids will relate to me because I'm short."
The next step for Fisher would be to participate in a two-day mini-camp that the Globetrotters have scheduled for August in Houston. Others drafted by the Globetrotters were Patrick Ewing Jr. (Georgetown), Sonny Weems (Arkansas), William Bullard (Texas A&M-Corpus Christi), Longar Longar (Oklahoma) and Donald Thomas (Auburn).

One Step Closer To Big Show |
The Hawks are one game away from re-visiting the NPBL Championship. The only problem is they have to get through the Northern Division’s top seed Elmira Bulldogs to do so.
They two teams faced each other three times during the regular season with all three games going down to the very last seconds. The Bulldogs won two out of the three but it certainty wasn’t a walk in the park. The last time they played the Hawks gave up a 20 point lead resulting in a great comeback victory for the Bulldogs.
That wasn’t the first time the Hawks gave up huge leads in the second half of a game throughout the season. Known for going cold in the second half in most of their games they lost, the Hawks regrouped and have seem to corrected the problems. In the first round of the playoffs the Hawks came out in the 2nd half poised and in control leading to a trip to the Northern Division Championship.
”Finding the right chemistry was our most challenging problem all season. With all the ups and downs this season we experienced, I am pleased in what our coaching staff has done. This is going to be a real battle. We are hungry, and still feel like we owe it to ourselves and our fans to win this game and get one step closer to remaining the NPBL Champions” says Director of Basketball Operations, Tim Gines.

Monarchs Look to Dethrone The Hawks |
The Hawks prepare to face the Westchester Monarchs for the first round of the 2008 NPBL Play Offs. With the NPBL’s one game elimination rule, anything is possible. The Hawks coaching staff looks to find the right formula to get the job done. Trying to find the right chemistry on the court has seemed to plague the Hawks the entire season.
The Hawks will mostly need to be consistent throughout the entire game. The Monarchs are not to be taken lightly coming off a win over the NY Strike Force, they have a new found confidence. The Monarchs also have made some roster changes that match them up very well against the Hawks.
This game comes down to one question… Who wants it more? The winner of game 1 will go on to face the Northern Division Champs, the Elmira Bulldogs. Tip off is at 7:05 PM Saturday, June 14th in Beacon High School.
